Summer Hair Care Tips For Your Beauty Clients
Summer can damage hair, but with these tips, you can help your clients keep their locks healthy: use moisturizing products after swimming, limit hot tools, wear hats for scalp protection, establish a routine with leave-in conditioner or masks, choose protective hairstyles, and stay hydrated. These steps ensure their hair stays vibrant and strong all season.
The Top Tips for Summer Hair Care–Protect Your Clients’ Locks at All Costs
[rank_math_toc]Don’t Sweat Saltwater Damage– Protect with Extra Moisture
If your clients are spending tons of time in the saltwater this summer (we’re super envious if they are), the best advice you can give them is to infuse moisture and protein back into their locks post-swim session.
As great as saltwater is, it can wreak havoc on hair if not protected properly and with tons of exposure by stripping it of nutrients and moisture.
So, if you’ve got beach-loving clients who also want to keep their hair healthy, having a few moisturizing products on hand for recommendations is a must.
Another pro tip? Have your clients wet their hair until it’s damp, apply a moisturizing mask without rinsing, and then enjoy their romp in the waves. This added layer of protection is thought to keep the saltwater from penetrating locks and doing all kinds of drying damage.
Minimize Hot Tools
The sun’s UV rays can do a ton of damage to your clients’ hair–that’s why keeping hot tools in their routine could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back when it comes to excess damage.
For the summer, advise your clients to step away from hot tools (or at least limit them) if they plan to have a summer filled with outdoor adventure. Encourage your clients to try some heatless styles and make sure you have plenty to recommend!
Hats On, Please
Remind your clients that it’s not just about protecting their hair; it’s about protecting their scalp, too. That scalp is where all the hair magic happens–and it can def be damaged by sun exposure.
Encourage your clients to pop a hat on their heads when they know they’ll be out in the sunshine for extended periods of time.
Create a Leave-In Conditioner & Mask Routine
Hats, suns, salt, chlorine–the elements of summer are fun but can leave hair begging for a little relief. Summer is the perfect season to get your clients hooked on a regular leave-in conditioner or hair mask routine.
Encourage your clients to establish an actual routine they stick to–instead of just reactively applying moisture when their hair is too far gone.
The more hydration and nutrition they can give their locks on the reg, the less damage they’ll likely experience. Your job? Have a full recommended regimen ready to go for them! You’ll want to make sure you’ve got custom options that’ll work wonders for their hair types, pain points, and goals.
Opt for Protective Hair Styles
If your clients are worried about breakage or damage due to excess activity, swimming, and summertime tangles, consider teaching them a few easy (but cute!) protective summer hairstyles to minimize their concerns.
For example, loose braids of all kinds are an awesome and protective alternative to other styles. Plus, they’ll get those cute beach waves once their hair dries and they let that hair loose!
Above All, Hydrate!
We know, we know–this sounds like a lecture. But honestly, the best thing you can do for your body (your skin, your hair, everything!) is to make sure you’re adequately hydrated.
Even if you’re not feeling thirsty, reach for your trusty water bottle this summer so that you can quench your thirst and keep things healthy.
Water helps catalyze your hair growth, prevent split ends, and keep hair from turning brittle. Who knew extra H2O could make such a difference? (We did, and now you do, too).
