Pride Month & The Beauty Industry:
How to Support and Celebrate
It’s June, people.
You know what that means, right?
It’s PRIDE MONTH—and at EBS, we are always over-the-top ready to celebrate and support the LGBTQIA+ community in any way we can.
Whether or not you personally identify as an active and thriving part of the LGBTQIA community or consider yourself an ally, you’re probably waaay on board (like we are) to kick off the month-long historical remembrance and celebration.
But here’s the deal.
Pride is so, so much more than just donning fun outfits and dying hair gorgeous rainbow hues.
Pride is historical.
It’s a representation of a community that’s faced trial, hate, and hardship. June is recognized as Pride Month to mark the anniversary of the Stonewall riots on June 28, 1969—the events that led to a national firestorm of activism and elevated the fight for LGBTQIA+ equality.
Pride is meaningful, and we celebrate all June to mark those uprisings as a turning point, a crucial step, and a marked event in our history.
It’s also a downright incredible, affirming celebration of all that the LGBTQIA+ community has accomplished.
With this in mind, how can you mindfully and fully celebrate and support Pride Month within your salon, spa, or shop? We’ve got you covered.
Keep reading for some fun, respectful Pride Month concepts that we highly encourage you to try—and make your own, too!
How to Show Your Pride
Foster Inclusivity Within Your Workspace
You know how you can really show your support for Pride Month and the LGBTQIA+ community? By fostering an inclusive salon space all year.
If you, as a human being, feel that it’s vital to ensure every member of the community and every person who walks into your shop feels safe, feels equal, and feels welcome, then it is your job to ensure an inclusive space.
Take yourself through every facet of your salon—from start to finish. Ask, “Is this an equal and fair space for every person who walks through this door?” If you don’t know—ask.
Get help. Learn. Be informed. Do what you need to do to ensure that inclusivity and equality are never issues in your space.

Stand for a Zero-Tolerance Policy on Hate
Do this every day of every month all throughout the year—forever. If hate has no place in your establishment, make that known at all times.
Be Informed & Be a Teacher
Use this time to learn about LGBTQIA+ history. And more than that, be an informed teacher who can help others better understand the community and its history, too.
Decorate, Decorate, Decorate
Your salon, spa, or shop should speak volumes about your support for Pride. Go all out on décor if you’re into it and show your customers, the public, and anyone who wanders by just how supportive you are of Pride Month and the community.
Throw a Pride Month Party
Throw. A. Damn. Party. Seriously! Even if you’re not opting for an in-person celebration, throw a virtual party. Have delicious food, a few drinks, some amazing decorations—all while ensuring that each facet of your party pays respect and celebration to the community in the right way.
Wear Your Pride on Your Sleeve
Dress the heck up, people! We know we said that pride isn’t just about fun outfits but, like, it’s also very heavily tied to fun outfits. Get wild with it!
But Also in Your Hair
Rainbow roots, pastel pride, and loud and proud hairstyles are a must for those who want an eccentric take on celebrating pride as unabashedly as possible.
