Jessica's Journey

My name is Jessica Scott Santo, also known as @JessicaScottHair on Instagram. I am a salon owner in Sciota, PA called Jessica Scott Hair and have been in the hair industry for 13 years. I’m a Balayage educator for Sunlights Balayage and a wife and a mom of 3 boys.

I am known for long, balayaged hair on social media platforms and teaching social media content. I grew my social media account to over 100k followers in just 2 years and love helping others achieve their goals and ultimately getting those followers to turn into clients.

I graduated from an extensive training at Metro Beauty Academy, in Allentown, PA at the top of her class in '08. I studied under Mathew Allen Thorpe at Excape Hair Design Studio in Allentown, PA while also student taught at Metro Beauty Academy. I taught modeling hair classes at Image International Modeling Agency.

For the past 10 years, I had been a Master Stylist, Makeup Artist, and Manager at Tangles Salon & Spa in Easton PA before owning my hair salon, 'Jessica Scott Hair' in Sciota, PA in 2019. In 2018, I became a sunlights balayage educator and also worked with many other brands as an influencer on social media, such as Schwarzkopf, Joico, and Design Me. 

I won "Best Hairstylist" in my hometown in 2018 for "The Best of the Lehigh Valley" for Style Magazine. In 2018, I was named "Modern Salon's TOP 100 Stylist with a Published Editorial Spread in Modern Salon's Magazine. I had joined Behind the Chair's "theBTCteam" and also received my first nomination as a finalist for the One Shot Hair Awards in "Long Hair Cut" category. 

In the summer of 2018, I helped on the set of "Daniel Roebuck's short film called "In This Moment". In 2019, I also have had two other hair nominations. A first-time finalist nomination "in Braids Category" for Licensed to Create Awards Hosted by Cosmoprof Beauty, and a second-year finalist nomination for Behind the Chair's One Shot Hair Awards, also in the Braiding Category and Cool Balayage taking top 5 in both categories.

Throughout my career, I have taken multiple color and cutting classes, attended multiple hair shows, and became certified in Hair Talk, Great Length Extensions as well with Brazilian Blowout. 

I continue to take ongoing education while traveling teaching Balayage classes and always excited to see where my career takes me.

BIGGEST CHANGE IN GROWTH! POSTING, staying consistent, and engaging!

• Posting 4 times a day and staying consistent (if you can’t post 4 times a day, stick with 1-2 times but still maintaining consistency.)
• 30 Hashtags!!!! Use them! Hashtag tools you use, products, big accounts, locations, what clients would try to hashtag.
• Instagram wants you to be social. Like, follow, and comment  other pages!

If you want to grow your presence on social media, you have to get tor name out there and form connections with others.

Pictures!

It all comes down to a good picture or video.

Use a neutral background, if you don’t have one, use a portable backdrop. Outside, indirect lighting (true to color, eye-catching) is the most effective for my images. If it’s dark outside, purchase a ring light. I always make sure the client has smooth hair (not messy or frizzy), the image is clear, and the client's body is flattering to the hair.

IG loves video content too! Especially educational ones! It allows viewers to stay on that image longer which will open up more viewers on your Instagram to view it.

Find your NICHE! If I start posting hair, nails, makeup, products, etc.... it will look like a jumbled mess on my feed! That is why certain brands do better when they stick to one thing. It will flow better on their feed, thus being more eye-catching, and in hopes of getting more followers!
