How to Celebrate International Women's Day in Ways That Give Back
March is here, and an epic day is on its way! For those of you who aren't aware (or need a little reminder), one of our all-time favorite days is celebrated every year on March 8th.
Yep, we're talkin' about International Women's Day, a can't-miss holiday that every cosmetologist (and person!) out there should be prepared to be a part of.
Listen, we love any excuse to shout and lift up all the women in our industry and beyond (because, let's face it, women are amazing). And even though the entire month of March is technically International Women's Month, everyone at EBS truly believes that women deserve a whole heck of a lot more celebration than a single day can hold.
Our solution? We're sharing our top 7 suggestions for how you can celebrate this epic holiday in a meaningful way WHILE giving back to your community and showing your appreciation for all the amazing women in your life.
But here's the challenge–don't just implement these for one day a year. Celebrate women–and all their amazing contributions–by taking these suggestions and infusing them in your shop, your life, and your daily routine–every single day!
7 Ways to Celebrate International Women's Day (& Give Back at the Same Time)
Invite a Guest Stylist in Your Shop
Host a guest stylist in your shop for the month to celebrate IWD. Find a stylist you admire, one who might need mentoring and who would appreciate your guidance for a full month. Cover their booth cost, share your knowledge, and pass on your wisdom to help give them a boost in your industry!
Work side by side with them, promote their brand, and help them build themselves up in a big way!
We can't think of a better way to celebrate IWD than by lifting up and supporting fellow female stylists.
Create a Go-To Referral List & Share it with Your Customers
The best way to celebrate other women in the industry (and beyond) you admire? Create an epic list of all-female companies you can hand out to your clients. Does your client need a new accountant? They're in luck–you've got a badass list of female accountants they can work with. Is someone in your shop looking for a tutor for their child? Guess what–you've got a list of amazing female teachers who can help.
Obviously, put together a list of industry specialists you admire and want to direct customers to (like that amazing esthetician you love!), but try to branch out and add other female entrepreneurs your customers would benefit from working with.
Social Media Shout Outs & Celebrations
Use the month of March to shout out women you admire and aspire to be like! Not only does this shout-out drive traffic their way, but it also shows the world that you're big on the female community and opens the door for more women to join your clique.
Be open, be welcoming, and share the knowledge of amazing females in the industry and beyond with the world!
Host In-Salon Panels for the Community
If you missed the mark this year, consider this idea for next: host women-led panels in your salon for a day of celebration and progress. Gather up a group of female entrepreneurs, business owners, and just all-around amazing ladies you admire, create topic discussions, and invite the community to join your panel.
If you end up charging for admission, make sure you're donating some of the proceeds to a female-oriented charitable organization to double the benefit of your efforts.
Build a Community of Women You Admire
There is nothing more rewarding and celebratory than joining together with a community of women to lift each other up, encourage each other, and help each other find success.
One of our absolute greatest pieces of advice for IWD is to start focusing on how you can build a community of women you adore, admire, and aspire to be like.
Host monthly meetups, get lunch, make cocktails–do whatever you want to do to foster bonds and grow relationships with powerful, successful, and ambitious women. Your community is there to lift you up–if you don't have one yet, now is the perfect time to dedicate yourself to finding one!
Use Your Platforms to Promote Your Message
Whatever your preferred platform might be (community notoriety, social media platforms, an in with the local government), make sure you're leaning on that platform to communicate and promote the messages of you and your fellow women! Making actionable changes that better the world (and womanhood!) is exactly what International Women's Day is all about.
Get creative, use the platform you've worked hard to establish and share your message with the world.
Get Involved on a Government Level
Not happy with women's wages? Feel like women are underrepresented in your industry (or another)? Want to level the playing field and make a stand for women everywhere? Our greatest advice is to get involved on a governmental level! There's nothing quite so rewarding as making effective change in honor of the trailblazing women who came before you.
Remember, if there's something you're passionate about, it's important to take charge, step forward, and lead the movement. Take the time to build your community, establish what's important to you, and represent yourselves in places where change happens! Standing idly by isn't your scene, right? You're a powerhouse woman, after all!
