Easy Skincare Tips for Your Client's Memorial Day-Weekend Travel Plans

As an esthetician, you likely know that one of the most frustrating aspects of our clients’ skincare routines is inconsistency.

You desperately want the advice and insight you share with them to get them the results they want, but with so much happening in their lives, it’s not always easy to navigate a skincare routine while they’re on the go.

And that’s understandable, right? You can’t necessarily expect your clients to drop their plans, quit traveling, avoid holidays, and stay home just to follow along with their skincare routines so they get the results they want. That’s pretty crazy if we’re being totally honest.

You can’t ask them to do that, but you can ask them to do something else–be flexible.

With Memorial Day Weekend coming up, you know your clients are going to be traveling, out in the sun, and doing tons of fun things. That can sometimes mean their skin is going to play second fiddle.

But you know what? That’s OK.

Because now, you’ve got a fun little list of go-to skincare tips to help protect their skin, maintain their routines, and keep them on the path to their skin goals–all without messing up their Memorial Day plans. Here’s what we’ve got!

Easy Memorial Day Weekend Skincare Tips for Your Clients

Memorial Day usually means tons of sunshine, lots of outside time, and, unfortunately, some sad skin when the weekend is finally over. Here are a few tips to help you clients keep up with their routines and protect their skin all while having the best weekend ever.

Sunscreen is Key

We’re starting with an obvious one, of course, but we can’t not mention this first. If your clients don’t understand the magic of sunscreen (or that without it all their hard work is sort of pointless), you’ll want to really drive this point home for them.

Make it easy, too. Offer them a go-to list of must-try sunscreens for their skin (both face and body options), so they can snatch up an approved one before they head out on their adventure.

Don’t Skip the Lips

Let your clients know that lips need love, too! Often, clients layer sunscreen on their faces but leave their poor lips defenseless.

A client does a bare minimum skincare routine over the memorial day weekend as instructed by her esthetician.

That can result in some serious sun damage and painful burns. Ensure they know that those lips need protection and coverage, too. And, as always, have a few recommendations up your sleeve to make things easy for them.

Hydrate Like There’s No Tomorrow

When all else fails, encourage your clients to hydrate! Obviously, Memorial Day can include all the dehydrating (but delicious) foods and drinks.

Encourage them to combat that dryness with lots of extra water can help your clients’ skin stay moisturized and hydrated.

Moisturizer is a Must

Even if your client forgoes every serum, scrub, or cleanser in their packing list, implore them to bring the moisturizer!

Lots of Memorial Day activities (sun, water, less sleep, alcohol, different diet, etc.) can contribute to crabby skin–and moisturizer is just one of those things that can help remedy all of that, fix that dryness and leave your clients’ skin happier.

At Bare Minimum, Wash off Makeup

You can’t ask your clients to bring their full, however-many-step skincare routine with them during their fun in the sun weekend, but you can ask them to remember (please!) to cleanse the makeup off their face before they sleep!

Seriously, this easy step needs to happen to avoid clogged pores, angry skin, and upset clients.

Scalp Skin Needs Love, Too

Don’t let your clients forget that the skin on their scalp is at risk, too!

Sure, it’s OK to get a lil loose on their skincare routine when they’re traveling, but helping them dial it back in when they get back is key to getting back on the consistency train. Encourage your clients to schedule a facial, peel, or whatever might be best for post-vacay ahead of their vacation–that way, they’re set up for success right when they get back!
An esthetician client listens to a beauty pro's skincare tips and wears a hat for her memorial day weekend.

No, not everyone is going to want to layer sunscreen into their hair, so encourage your clients to keep a hat on hand for their precious heads! (Because trust us, a scalp burn is no fun).

Make an Appointment ASAP for When They Get Back

Sure, it’s OK to get a lil loose on their skincare routine when they’re traveling, but helping them dial it back in when they get back is key to getting back on the consistency train. Encourage your clients to schedule a facial, peel, or whatever might be best for post-vacay ahead of their vacation–that way, they’re set up for success right when they get back!
