Beauty On the Go: How to Make Your Beauty Services Mobile
Wanna know what’s all the rage in the beauty biz right now? We’ve got three words for you: mobile beauty services.
It’s no secret that the beauty industry–and how we deliver our services to our clients–is ever-changing. And in an evolving industry, it’s important (and fun!) to try to keep up with the trends–but more than that, it can be incredibly lucrative to hop on a new thing in the industry. And to be honest, mobile beauty services could be that thing.
If you’re picturing a beauty mobile that you drive up to your clients’ homes or a mobile shop when we say the words “mobile beauty services,” you’re not necessarily wrong. But it’s important to point out that’s just a few of the ways to offer mobile beauty services. And here’s the thing–it's not just a side hustle situation anymore.
No matter how you tackle this way of providing services–whether it’s an actual mobile beauty shop, you’re an on-the-go stylist who rents booths, or you work out of clients’ spaces–there are some tips that can help you ease into this service method in style. And that’s precisely what this blog is all about.

First things first, let’s acknowledge that there’s no one-size-fits-all way to provide mobile beauty services. If you’ve got a strategy that works for you, we encourage you to keep that going (and to share it with your beauty community in the comments).
For others, this post is here to provide some universal tips that we believe can help beauty pros swap over to the mobile side!
Create a Business Plan
Even if you’ve been in business for years and have a business plan on lock, it’s highly likely you’ll need to switch things up when going mobile. The reason? Running a mobile beauty business is just different than running a brick-and-mortar business. And you know what? That’s OK.
Starting from scratch isn’t necessarily “starting from scratch” in this case–you’re just changing the way you offer your services, altering your goals, and redefining what success looks like in this case.
Identify Your Target Market
Is your mobile beauty business going to target the same audience you’ve been targeting? Do you have a new audience on the horizon?
Before you can begin to build your business plan, create a marketing strategy, and get to work on dishing out the best beauty services in the biz, you need to know who you’re trying to work with.
While it’s possible there’s going to be some overlap from your existing clientele, you’re likely switching up who your target audience is, so it’s important to figure out who they are, what they value, and how to talk with them.
Get Your Marketing on Lock
Marketing isn’t going to be entirely different in theory–but your messaging is changing. Take a good, hard look at your branding. Does your current branding make sense for a mobile beauty business? Are there areas of overlap or areas that need a total refresh?
And what about your social media, email marketing, and SEO strategies–do those need any alterations now that you’re swapping to a mobile salon? And if you’re just starting out with a mobile salon without a prior business model, think long and hard about how you can kick your mobile marketing off on a bang!
Make Sure You’ve Got the Right Tools
The beautiful thing about a mobile beauty career is that you don’t have to deal with all the ins and outs of salon equipment. But the challenging thing is that you don’t have all the salon equipment. It’s a double-edged sword, right?
You need to figure out what tools you need to offer the same services you do in the shop (if they still apply). It’s a bonus if those tools are easy to use, easy to move, and highly recommended in the industry. In other words, you need to find a balance between mobile-friendly, best-in-the-biz, and streamlined. No pressure, right?
The good news is that mobile beauty pros are big nowadays–and that means tools are being designed with those uses in mind. It’s not nearly as hard now to stock up on mobile-friendly equipment as it used to be!
There are tons of other helpful hints and tips that can guide you on your journey to becoming an A+ mobile stylist.
