10,000 Hairdressers, One Epic Event—Everything That Happened at the

2019 Redken Symposium

It’s incredible, it’s exclusive, it’s so career-changing they only host it every other year, that’s right the Redken Symposium.

As we mentioned in past articles, it’s a whirlwind weekend that’s jam packed with over the top classes, the best educators in the game, an unforgettable, uniquely Redken opening night experience, and so much more. If you couldn’t make it this time, that’s okay! We’re here to give you the inside scoop on everything that went down.

First and foremost, it was BIGGER and BETTER than ever before.

Launched in the early nineties, the Redken Symposium is a haven for beauty pros looking to up their stylist game, mingle with the top influencers and educators in the industry, meet other passionate stylists, and have a great time doing it!

The 2019 Symposium was no different.

This year, Redken upped the ante and DOUBLED the number of classes offered this year. In addition to more classes, the larger Gallerie area also hosted more educational opportunities segmented by all of Redken’s lines, including Shades EQ , Barbers and Brews, Frizz Dismiss, and more.

Not to mention….the Harvard of Hair— The Redken Exchange experience.

This included tons of FREE hands on workshops in between classes and throughout the weekend.

But Wait, That’s Not All

The center stage of the Gallerie served as a platform for some of the most admired leaders in the beauty industry, such as Celebrity Stylist Tracey Cunnigham and Christ Moody!

The opportunity to ask questions and take pictures were endless.

Talk about priceless!

In-between classes and educational experiences the Gallerie featured multiple retail areas, mini class sessions, insta-worth photo experiences, a virtual reality salon experience, trusted partner booths, and of course a naked cowboy.

Redken’s Shades EQ line was hosting their birthday celebration, complete with live color tutorials from top Redken artists, a ball pit, and all the color mixing secrets.  Barbers and Brews was also a hot-spot in the Gallerie featuring non-stop barbering and men’s grooming tutorials on live hair models, bridging the gap between cosmetology and barbering.

Redken also invited some valued partners to the party to assist and educate attendees, even more.

Summit Salon Business Center, Pivot Point, Sam Villa, Beauty Changes Lives, Trim Hunger and more were all present. Whether stylists wanted to find a way to give back to their communities or expand their education back home— these Redken partners had it covered.

After years of waiting and anticipation, Live Best Pro was also launched at the Redken Symposium. This long-awaited platform is an all-inclusive hub for beauty pros ranging offering insurance options, discounts on shopping, travel, dining, cash back perks and more!

There were also multiple retail areas in the Gallerie that sold all the Redken product and swag your heart desired; from every single one of their product lines, their newly improved anti-frizz line, to iridescent fanny-packs, iconic Redken shirts, jackets, and more—the Gallerie had it all.

Outside of the Gallerie the real action was taking place. Perfectly themed, and in-line with all of Redken’s New York City glory, each class took place in rooms named after unique NYC neighborhoods from SOHO to Chelsea.

The 2019 Redken Symposium featured classes ranging from hair color, design and finishing techniques, to business improvement courses, digital upskilling classes, social media centric classes and more.

Interested In Stepping Up Your Social Media Game At The Symposium?

Good news. Mary Rector Gable, the founder of Behind the Chair, was giving a master class all weekend on making social platforms work for you, and your beauty business.

American Salon and Modern Salon were both also in attendance teaching business and promotional classes. I mean, who better to learn from, than the crème de la crème?

Interested in standing out from the pack?

The Pureology education team, and stylist/barber/rule-breaker Mikey Henger both honed in on teaching stylists about embracing their art, their passions, and what they do best- in their respective classes. These classes coupled being unapologetic for being yourself, with just the right amount of inspiration and motivation to push stylists to forge their own identities.

P.S. We heard these classes were a must attend! If you come across these career changing educators at upcoming shows, be sure to sign up for a session!

Just wanted some good old fashioned, best in the biz, Redken education?

You would’ve been in luck- it was boundless. From celebrity stylist Tracey Cunningham sharing all of her Shades EQ blonde and color secrets, to getting a priceless education from Sam Villa the basics you need to know to be a successful stylist, the 2019 Redken Symposium was a priceless experience.

After a long day shopping in the Gallerie, attending all of the classes, and meeting your favorite influencers and educators, the day STILL wasn’t over!

As a member of the Redken Tribe, you should know, no Redken event is ever complete without a party!

After day one of classes, there was an official grand opening extravaganza.

From live, on stage cutting and styling, to performances straight out of Cirque Du Soleil—this event lived up to the glamour, the hype, and the excitement of any Vegas show. Encouraging and invigorating attendees to Learn Better, Earn Better, and Live Best, this was an unforgettable way to kick off Redken Symposium 2019.

Who Are You When The Sun Goes Down?

Monday night, after a full second day of classes, the party wasn’t over. This year, the “Alter-Ego” theme was hoping to entice stylists to let go, let loose, and be themselves.

What a party it was! The final night celebration included performances from top-tier Brittany Spears, Dolly Parton, and Prince impersonators—but if you ask us, it might as well have been the real thing.

All in all, an AMAZING weekend for us at Elite Beauty Society, we had an awesome time meeting all of the wonderful beauty pros that make our industry so great.

Any stylist thinking about attending a Redken Symposium keep your eye out in 2021, these events are career changing and inspiring to the max.

Besides, you never know when we will be sending our next lucky winner!

Most of all, thank you to Redken, all the artists, vendors, staff, and of course the attendees who made this incredible weekend possible—you inspire us to Live Best!
